Dr Ruge updated us this morning that the final pathology report is also showing the tumor to be a Medullablastoma. This of course is not the news we were hoping for. We were still hoping there could be some miracle turn of events and the final path show it to be a benign astrocytoma likeContinue reading “Pathology Report”

Thursday
The last 24 hours has been challenging for me. Yesterday I was exhausted. Completely over tired from the rough night Cade had had, and when I’m overtired, I am emotional. I just couldn’t shake it. Cade had began having nightmares that night and at one point when I was in bed with him during one,Continue reading “Thursday”
MRI Results and Post Op Update
Cade did in fact make it down to MRI yesterday by 11 and did great. He had a repeat MRI with and without contrast which was planned for post op comparison and review. Dr Ruge was very happy with the results. It shows a full resection, with the exception of that very thin layer heContinue reading “MRI Results and Post Op Update”
Tuesday
Cade had a pretty good night overall. He would wake up uncomfortable here and there. Mostly he’d drift back off to sleep, but around 4am he was really agitated and saying his head hurts, so he got some morphine to help. He is still throwing up little amounts of mucus, which breaks my heart becauseContinue reading “Tuesday”
Post-op Update
Here they do their own postoperative recoveries in their PICU room, which is great! Cade came back to his room for recovery extubated, meaning he did not have the breathing tube in. This was reassuring because it was an uncertainty with the nature of the tumor and how it had grown. Due to its position andContinue reading “Post-op Update”
Neurosurgeon Report
Dr Ruge came out to update us and our families in our private family waiting lounge. He sat down with us and talked about everything he did. Cade tolerated the surgery great. They were able to remove 99% of the tumor. The tumor was growing on the vomiting center of his brain, which was whyContinue reading “Neurosurgeon Report”
Surgery Update
Laura, one of the amazing doctors on our team who has been updating us along the way today has just come out to tell us that everything went good and they are closing him up now. Thank you GOD!! Now she said we just wait for them to finish completely and then Dr Ruge, hisContinue reading “Surgery Update”
Monday Morning – Surgery Day
Today is the big day. Cade went back in to the OR about 20-30 minutes ago. Getting out of his bed while he looked at me with a pouty lip, flushed cheeks, and tear glazed eyes was one of the hardest and scariest things I’ve ever done. He got a dose of versed before weContinue reading “Monday Morning – Surgery Day”
Quirky Cade
I thought I would share some happy cute moments since we have been in the hospital. First and foremost-Cade is being an absolute trooper!! He has been in good spirits considering he is a 2 yr old restricted to his bed, constantly getting tangled up in his wires, having lights shined in his eyes hourly,Continue reading “Quirky Cade”
The Plan
Many people have asked us how we feel about the doctors and surgeons here. Do we feel like he is in good hands or that he should be transferred elsewhere. Chris and I both agree that we feel very comfortable here at Advocate Lutheran General Childrens Hospital. From down in the ER to every staffContinue reading “The Plan”
