We are so grateful and relieved to report that the MRI did not show any lesions in his spine. Thank GOD!!! This is great news as their concern with the location of the tumor was that it can travel down the spine. The MRI confirmed that it is in fact a tumor and it is located in the base of the brain next to the cerebellum and pushing against the spinal cord blocking the drainage of his spinal fluid. They have him on steroids and want him on them a few days to decrease the swelling.
Cade will be having brain surgery first thing Monday morning. They anticipate us being here for 10-14 days after surgery as he will have a drain in to help relieve the fluid from the hydrocephalus. Praying to GOD that cade is able to have the drain (EVD) come out. If for some reason the hydrocephalus is really bad and he can’t tolerate the EVD being removed, this means he will end up with a shunt for life to drain the fluid for him. I do not want this for a slew of reasons, so I’m trying to stay positive that it’s not bad enough to come to this. That we caught this all in time.
The neurosurgeons believe by the location that the tumor that it could be one of 3 types. A medullablastoma. An astrocytoma. Or an ependymoma.
Those of you who don’t know- Chris and his sister both had brain tumors when they were 8. Chris’ was an astrocytoma that was benign. So we are praying to GOD and the heavens above that Cade can have this same outcome for his. We are praying for the lesser of all the evils!
